ADMISSIONS PROCEDURES

Students wishing to enter the Culinary Management degree program are advised to consult the section in the College Catalog regarding general admission requirements.

This program seeks candidates who are individually motivated and committed to a career in the food service profession. For this reason, work experience is considered crucial both before and during the period of academic preparation. Applications not selected for immediate admission to this program may be given provisional status. Students in this category will be required to take a least 6 semester hours of the program's non-lab courses to qualify for admittance into the next scheduled laboratory sequence. Students who decline provisional status must notify program director if they wish their application to be considered at a future date.

Applicants must complete the following requirements to be considered by the selection committee:

1. Compose a letter of application explaining why the applicant wishes to enter the food service industry. It is important that the applicant detail his/her background and experience and state why you selected Gulf Coast Community College.

(a) What skills do you posses that will aid in your development towards becoming a restaurant manager/chef or caterer?

(b) Why do you wish to be considered for this particular program?

2. Complete a Gulf Coast Community College application form. Copy is retained in culinary office student file.

3. Take Gulf Coast Community College Placement Test and have results posted with the Culinary Management office.

4. Make an appointment for personal interview with Program Chairman. Out of state students may delay this interview but must complete prior to start of classes.

5. Submit your personal résumé.
